Baile fearainn is ea Baile na dTadhg (Ballynadeige), a chiallaíonn “The Village of the Teiges”. B’iad ‘Na dTaghg” clann áirithe Uí Shuilleabháin agus cuireadh an leasainm sin orthu. Is cosúil gurb spailpíní iad a tháinig ó Oileán Béara go bliaintúil chun na prátaí a bhaint. Tugadh “Na Béarachs” orthu thimpeall na nDéise agus aithníodh iad de bharr a n-aineolas i dtaobh an Bhéarla. Shocraigh cuid acu sna Déise agus d’fhan a sliocht ann.

The townland name Baile na dTadhg (Ballynadeige) means “The Homestead of the Teiges”. According to Canon Power, “The Teiges were a family of O’Sullivans, so nicknamed. Great numbers of migratory labourers came annually from West Cork for the potato digging in Waterford. These strangers, who were known throughout the Decies as Bearachs, i.e., natives of Beare, were distinguished by their ignorance of English. Some of them settled down in Co. Waterford where their descendants survive.”
