Ceardlanna Maisiúcháin Rathúla Ar Líne mar chuid de Thionscadal Logainmneacha na Scoileanna de chuid Chomhairle Phort Láirge
D’eagraíodh deich gceardlann maisiúcháin ar líne leis an ealaíontóir Valeria Weerasinghe, a bhí ag obair mar mhaisitheoir leis an gcomhlacht iomráiteach Cartoon Saloon agus ghlac 150 páiste bunscoile sa chathair agus sa chontae páirt sna ceardlanna. Ghlac sé bhunscoil i bPort Láirge páirt sna Ceardlanna Maisiúcháin Ar Líne mar chuid de Thionscadal Logainmneacha na Scoileanna de chuid Choiste Logainmneacha Chomhairle Cathrach & Contae Phort Láirge mar a leanas:
Faoi stiúr Valeria, dhein na páistí léaráidí ar logainmneacha agus áiteanna ina gceantair áitiúla féin. Mhúin Valeria dóibh mar gheall ar atmaisféar agus dathanna agus thaispeán sí dóibh chomh maith conas a chruthaíonn @Cartoon Saloon ómós áite ina gcuid oibre. D’fhoghlaim na páistí ó Rang 5 agus Rang 6 go leor mar gheall ar ómós áite agus bunús na logainmneacha ina gceantair féin. Beidh na pictiúirí a cruthaíodh sna ceardlanna seo a fheiscint ar shuíomh idirlíon anseo (link to page on website)
B’iad Cartlannaí na Comhairle, Joanne Rothwell agus Oifigeach Gaeilge na Comhairle, Máire Seó Breathnach a d’eagraigh na ceardlanna ar son Choiste Logainmneacha Phort Láirge agus ba mhaith leo buíochas a ghabháil leis na múinteoirí agus páistí ar fad a ghlac páirt sa tsraith cheardlanna seo agus leis an maisitheoir Valeria Weerasinghe. Cuireadh na ceardlanna seo ar fáil a bhuíochas le Clár Éire Ildánach Phort Láirge.
A total of ten workshops were organised with illustrator Valeria Weerasinghe, who has worked as an illustrator with the world-famous Cartoon Saloon and some 150 children from around Waterford city and county participated in the workshops. Six Waterford primary schools have successfully completed the online Cartoon Workshops as part of Waterford City & County Council’s Schools’ Fieldnames & Placenames Project as follows:
Under Valeria’s direction, the children created drawings representing placenames and features of their local area. Valeria taught the students all about mood and colour and how to use their local knowledge to create a great illustration. She also showed them how Cartoon Saloon creates a great sense of place in its work. The children from 3rd to 6th class learned all about a sense of place and the origins of many of their local placenames, which originally come from the Irish language. The illustrations created in these workshops will be available to view on our website here (link to page on website). These bright, bold and brilliant illustrations are a great showcase of the creativity and the heritage of Waterford.
The Council’s Archivist, Joanne Rothwell and Irish Officer, Máire Seó Breathnach, organised the workshop series on behalf of the Council’s Placenames Committee and they would like to thank all the teachers and pupils from the various schools who took part in the workshops and thanks also to the illustrator, Valeria Weerasinghe. The workshops were provided to schools thanks to the support of Creative Waterford.
